To learn a new language is to have one more window from which to look at the world.

Language Kindergarten Leicester
a multilingual pre-school
German - English - French
The Language Kindergarten is a warm, friendly and exciting place for 3-6 year old's (younger or older children by arrangement). We are situated in the Friends Meeting House near the centre of Leicester and close to Leicester University. We have two bright rooms with a great view over Victoria Park and a lovely big garden for outdoor play.
At the Language Kindergarten we believe that learning is a natural part of life. We strive to create a fun and stimulating environment where children enjoy themselves and learn in a playful way. We help children develop social skills and a sense of belonging to the group with respect for each other. Our nurturing environment will help children develop confidence and build on their strenght's. We help each child to grow in independence and to develop into a confident person.
Our Language Kindergarten is a small and personal group (max. 12 children), and each child will get lots of individual attention. Our staff to child ratio will never exceed six children per adult. Our teachers are all fully qualified, and all teachers and assistants are native German/French speakers and bilinguals and carry a recent DBS check.
We promote language learning from an early age. Children are natural language learners, and pick up their first language effortlessly in social interaction and context. Just as they pick up their first language, they will pick up a second language naturally, if they are surrounded by it. There is evidence that children learning a second language will not only learn a further language quicker, but will also develop better listening and communication skills, and become more flexible in their thinking. And for the children, it's just a big adventure!
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday are our German days, and Wednesday is our new French day! Parents chose freely which day(s) children attend, if there are free spaces.
All the children spend the day together, but for certain activities, we can offer two language groups, so that every child has the space and support to develop their language skills in their own time and at their own speed.
In the English-German or English-French group, children learn German or French through games, stories and songs. English will be spoken as well to make children feel welcome, and build on the knowledge of their first language. This group will give children a first exposure to a second language and culture (either German or French), and they will start to learn new words and phrases and pick up pronunciation and accent quickly.
The primarily German or French group is ideal for children with a bilingual background who already understand and speak some German or French. Children will learn through role play, stories and games, and broaden their vocabulary.
The days at the Language Kindergarten are prepared carefully and creatively to make language development fun and easy. All senses, and lots of action and communication are involved in our sessions. We get to know and celebrate many different festivities and customs from the German or French speaking countries, and children will build long-lasting relationships amongst each other and with the teachers and helpers.
Take the new language home!
We always like to work with our parents and are happy to share all activities, and the new words and songs we learn at the Language Kindergarten. We encourage all parents to learn alongside their children!
More German activities
The German Academy Leicester also offers a German Saturday School, a Summer School and various other activities for children and even adults. So once children leave the Language Kindergarten, there are plenty of options to keep the German going!

The Language Kindergarten Team
Anne is an experienced and dedicated primary school teacher. She has been teaching in the Early Years since 2010.
She is currently managing the Languagekindergarten and teaching French in KS2 at a local Primary School. Anne is also one of the Directors of the German Academy.
After studying German Literature, Art and Textile Design at the University of Osnabrück, Vienna and Heidelberg, Anne completed her Teacher training in Aachen. She continued her studies at the University of Leicester with a Masters in Teaching and Learning in 2013.
Anne believes in a developmental approach to learning, seeing the role of a teacher as a facilitator. Creativity and sensitivity to the child's needs and interests is at the heart of all meaningful interaction.
is a native German
speaker from Stuttgart. She
used to run a playgroup for preschool children in California. She has been working in the German Kindergarten Leicester since 2013. Her own two children are bilingual.
Corinna is teacher and helper at the Language Kindergarten.
Born and bred in Le Havre, Normandy, she fell in love with English from her first English lessons at school.
She arrived in England as an ERASMUS student during her 3rd year at university, and she never looked back! She did her PGCE in 2001, and she has been teaching French and Spanish in secondary schools, here in Leicester, since then.
She has also been teaching in primary and preschool settings this year.
Mum of Théophile 7 and Amelie 10, she is a firm believer that learning a second language from an early age is easier and very beneficial. Her children are of course lucky to grow up in a bilingual home, however there are other ways of introducing another language. Children in preschools 30 minutes per week are proving this right.
